Thomas Anthony dePaola (born September 15, 1934), is an American author and illustrator of more than 200 children's books, best known for picture books such as Strega Nona. He received the Laura Ingalls Wilder Medal for his career contributions to children's literature in 2011. Tomie is well known for his children's books. He has won numerous awards over the years and is best known for his series of stories of Strega Nona a grandma witch who is loving and has magical powers.
